I just returned from Burwell, Nebraska where I attended the First ever Nebraska Prairie Chicken Festival! It was an absolutely spectacular weekend full of bird watching, fellowship and discussion about Prairie Chickens as well as conservation.
So much happened over the weekend I'll have to sort it out through a couple of posts. But to kick things off I'll start at the beginning. Shortly after registering for the even Friday night was a performance by Garan Coons of Winnebago, NE. Mr. Coons is a champion dancer as well as an excellent story teller and singer. He shared the Prairie Chicken Dance as well as the legend behind the dance to a Barn full of Ranchers, Biologists and tourists from across Nebraska and as far away as Georgia.
Nebraska is truly the heart of Prairie Chicken Country, but more on that later. Here's Mr. Coons!
And here's song number 2
